My journey in education has never been about titles. It has been about responsibility. Over 27 years — from teacher, head of year, assistant and deputy head, headteacher, trust lead, school improvement adviser, trustee and edtech founder.

From the beginning, my focus has been on young people. Supporting them, advocating for them, and creating environments where they feel safe, seen, and able to succeed. That commitment shaped every step I took and every role I moved into.

Progression did not come from chasing positions. It came from how I showed up. I learned early that leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room. It is about being steady when things feel uncertain, being clear when decisions are difficult, and being present when others need support.

Servant leadership has always been at the centre of my approach. I believe leadership is about lifting others, not proving yourself. That meant listening carefully, acting with integrity, and being willing to do the work that often goes unseen.

Kindness and empathy have guided my decisions, especially in high-pressure environments. Schools are complex places. People are carrying more than what is visible. Understanding this has helped me build trust with staff, students, and families.

At the same time, I have always held high standards. Excellence is not about perfection. It is about consistency, reflection, and a commitment to improving what we do for the people we serve. I have never been comfortable standing still. Curiosity has driven me to keep learning, to question what is not working, and to find better ways forward.

That combination of values and behaviours is what enabled me to move into leadership roles, including headship and school improvement work. It is also what shaped my work supporting other schools, leaders, and systems to improve.
